I can’t find green Chartreuse where I live. I’ve read that Faccia Brutto Centerbe which I’ve read is close. I first wanted the green Chartreuse/Faccia Brutto Centerbe for the Bijou Cocktail. Once I bought the Faccia Brutto Centerbe, I needed to use it in something else. I came across The Last Word, which also calls for green Chartreuse but I subbed with the Faccia Brutto Centerbe there to.
The Last Word is funky, in a good way. Lots of things going on as you enjoy this cocktail. The combination of gin, maraschino liqueur, lime juice and Faccia Brutto Centerbe have a lot nuisance. First sip was salty and the lime made it taste like a margarita. The floral/herbaceous notes come in next from the gin and Faccia Brutto Centerbe. I modified the original recipe which calls for equal parts of all the ingredients by adding an additional half ounce of the gin. This made the drink have a little more kick in the backend.
All in all, it was a fun drink. I’d make it again for sure.
Hat tip to Liquor.com for the recipe.
