The Archangel Cocktail came up in my feed and piqued my interest. It goes against my recent obsession with old school cocktails because it is a relatively new drink. Hat tip to Robb Report for the back story and recipe.
What interested me most was the “bruised” cucumber. That just sounded so cool and refreshing. Also, if you’ve seen any of my other cocktails I’ve tried and posted, you know my preference is bourbon or rye cocktails. If it’s not one of those, it’s gin. So, add the bruised cucumber, gin and Aperol, the Archangel just sounded delicious.
The Aperol is bittersweet + the floral note of the gin (I prefer Bombay Sapphire) + the hint/essence of the refreshing cucumber = delicious. I’ll be making this one again and again.
Ingredients for the Archangel Cocktail
- 2.25 oz. gin
- 0.75 oz. Aperol
- 2 slices of cucumber
- Lemon peel for garnish
How to make an Archangel Cocktail
- Add cucumber to a chilled mixing glass. With a muddler, “bruise” or slightly muddle the cucumber just enough to release the essence but not enough to break apart the cucumber. I ended up with a little liquid from the cucumber.
- Add ice, gin and aperol. Stir for 15-20 seconds, until chilled and combined.
- Double strain the mixture using the cocktail and fine mesh strainer into a coupe glass.
- Express then garnish with a lemon peel twist.
- Enjoy!
