The Kentucky Derby has the mint julip, the Preakness Stakes has, well, The Preakness. I don’t think this is the “official” drink of the horse race but it is named after it. The Preakness cocktail is a riff off the classic Manhattan. In this variant, Benedictine is add for a very different botanical nuance.
Ingredients for a Preakness Cocktail
- 1 1/2 ounces American rye whiskey
- 3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1/4 ounce Benedictine
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- Lemon twist to garnish
How to make a Preakness Cocktail
- Add rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, benedictine and bitters into a cocktail mixing glass with ice. Stir until well chilled.
