Here is a very short list of my favorite restaurants. I will not be listing any large national chains restaurants like PF Chang’s or Ruth’s Chris, although I like many of them, I prefer local establishments.

Greenville, South Carolina Area

  • Appalachia Restaurant, a true farm to table tucked away in beautiful Lake Lure, NC.
  • Northampton Wines Awesome, off the beaten path spot, great wine selection.
  • Sidewall Pizza Amazing pizza and salads with multiple locations.
  • The Anchorage Farm to plate, James Beard Finalist.
  • The Lazy Goat Classic since it opened. Best fries in the world.
  • Soby’s Might have started the Greenville food scene. Southern classics done well.
  • The Pita House Amazing “Greek” food, best value.
  • Bucky’s BBQ Best BBQ in the upstate.
  • Sassafras Southern Bistro Mixes southern with French. Beef en Croute is my favorite dish in downtown Greenville, SC.
  • Restaurant 17 Great food with amazing mountain views in Travelers Rest, SC.
  • 🙁CLOSED Urban Wren, downtown Greenville, SC
  • Topsoil Restaurant, Multiple James Beard nomination. Travelers Rest, SC
  • Mr. Crisp Great seafood and oysters.
  • L’incanto Northern Italian cuisine at it’s best, Greer, SC.
  • 🙁CLOSED Oak Hill Café and Farm Farm to plate, James Beard Nominated.
  • 🙁CLOSED Husk – Greenville Another Chef Brock property using only local and southern ingredients.
  • 🙁CLOSED Monkey Wrench Smokehouse, BBQ in Travelers Rest, SC
  • 🙁CLOSED Mekong Vietnamese using fresh local food. This is where the chefs eat. Amazing and best value.
  • 🙁CLOSED Bacon Brothers Public House Gluttony at it’s best. Nice beer and bourbon selection.

Charleston, South Carolina

  • Husk – Charleston Local and southern ingredients.
  • FIG On Par with McCrady’s above, fresh local food.
  • Jack’s Cosmic Dogs (Mount Pleasant) Best hot dogs ever, ask Alton Brown.
  • Fleet Landing Good food right on the water with phenomenal views.
  • Poogan’s Porch Best brunch in town.
  • 🙁CLOSED McCrady’s My favorite in the south.
  • 🙁CLOSED Fulton Five I got engaged here, Italian inspired cuisine.
