Dry Manhattan (Brooklyn) Cocktail
My recent preference for savory, booze-forward cocktails, such as the Manhattan. I found the original version too sweet, the Perfect Manhattan slightly less so, and the Dry Manhattan needing some sweetness in the form of Luxardo cherry juice. The cocktail dates back to the mid-1800s and includes rye whiskey, dry vermouth, bitters, and cherry juice, garnished with Luxardo cherries.
Fall Old Fashioned
I have posted several versions of an Old Fashioned. It is my favorite drink. Fall is not my favorite season. More accurately, I don’t like winter. Fall being winters predecessor, it makes me not like fall. This Old Fashioned makes the fall a little more palatable. The first recipe I found similar to this seemed…
The Fourth Regiment Cocktail
The Fourth Regiment Cocktail. I’ve been drifting for years towards more boozy, savory drinks and this one fits the bill just fine.

Local Shitake and Swiss Burger with Black Garlic and Soy Aioli
Who doesn’t like a mushroom and Swiss burger? This one is elevated with the black garlic and soy sauce aioli. I had never worked with black garlic myself. I’ve had it at restaurants and seen it on cooking shows but I had never even seen it in any of the stores we shop at. One…
Sous Vide Duck Breast, Roasted Asparagus, Potato Dauphinoise with Red Wine Reduction
When the wife is away I tend to make things she won’t eat, like duck. I found a photo on Goolge Images that just looked great so I tried to duplicate it. The sous vide duck was fantastic. The process allows for a medium rare but still a crispy crust. Asparagus is a go to…
Classic French Beef Stew
This beef stew (Boeuf Bourguignon) is the best when the weather dips down. Not only is it hearty and filling you also have the oven running for over two hours. I love the beautiful simplicity of dishes like these. The flavors are pure and so satisfying. My wife thought I should add mushrooms. Yes, that…
