Topsoil Kitchen + Market is in Travelers Rest, South Carolina. Chef Adam Cooke, James Bread semi finalist, takes farm-to-table literally. His farm is local and they source from their own farm and other local farmers. The restaurant can claim two James Beard finalists. Their previous pastry chef was also nominated in 2024. The food is so good. They have a very dynamic wine and beer list and don’t sleep on the cocktail program. If you live in the area or are visiting Greenville or the Upstate of SC, this restaurant should be on your radar!
The way Topsoil offers their menu is also pretty cool. Have you’ve ever been to a Restaurant Week or Foodie Fest? To encourage folks to try new restaurants and new cuisine, participating restaurants offer options, generally you pick an appetizer, an entrée and a dessert. This is usually for a reduced price. Well, Topsoil liked it so much they adopted that as a year around option. Me and my wife’s favorite part is that you don’t have to pick one app and one dessert. We both like more savory things so together, or with friends, we can pick multiple apps and split one dessert. We each still pick our own entrée but get to try more items on the menu. We also, usually, get the bread service and/or the charcuterie board which are HIGHLY recommended.
I mentioned this above but if you like wine, take the tasting option with each coarse. If you just want a bottle, let the wine director pick for you. She has never missed for us on her recommendations.
As of the writing of this post, Topsoil has live Jazz on Thursday nights. Brunch on the weekends and a Chef tasting menu on Sunday nights with multiple seatings. They also have featured dinners celebrating the seasons bounty, think tomatoes in the summer.
