Note: Unfortunately Urban Wren has closed. 😦
Urban Wren in downtown Greenville, SC, has rapidly become one of our favorite restaurants. The best way I can describe the menu is local, southern, Asian inspired cuisine. I don’t know if that is even accurate. Also, the original chef and sous chef just left and they have promoted their chef de cuisine to head chef. This change has promised to slowly remake the menu while keeping the staples. It will be fun to watch how this change comes to fruition.
Two of the staples on the menu are the Khicken, which is a Korean fried chicken and the Fin and Belly, which is tuna and red pork belly. See what I mean about the Asian influence? I so enjoyed a few of my meals (and a dessert and a cocktail), I decided to try to make them at home. Below are three I’ve tried so far. The cheese cake is one of the best I’ve every had. The Corpse Reviver No 2 is in my top ten cocktails now. The pork dish is mostly written and I’ll publish and link soon.
My Attempts at Copycat Recipes from Urban Wren
- Basque Burnt Cheesecake with Salted Bourbon Caramel Drizzle
- Corpse Reviver No 2 Cocktail
- Sous Vide Red Pork (char siu), Blistered Edamame + Steamed Bok Choy, Ramon, Pickled Carrots and Radish, Cilantro, Fried Shallot with Miso Broth (coming soon)
- Air Fried Korean Chicken Thighs, Steamed Bok Choy and Kimchi Carolina Gold Fried Rice (coming soon)
Take a look at some of my pics and social posts. If you are in the upstate of South Carolina, I highly recommend Urban Wren. They also have a very nice wine and beet list. Their bartenders are also very talented and have some fun special cocktails.
