The Pegu Club Cocktail

This old school cocktail is regaining some popularity with some minor tweaks. The drink got its start in the early 20th century in colonized southeast Asia. It is basically a Gin Sour but dumps the egg whites and adds the two bitters. More traditional recipes use triple sec or Cointreau but I’m using Grand Marnier because that’s what I had. It turned out to be a fantastic, savory cocktail.

Ingredients for The Pegu Club Cocktail

  • 2 ounces gin, we like Bombay Sapphire
  • 3/4 ounce Grand Marnier
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters

How to make The Pegu Club Cocktail

  1. Add the gin, Grand Marnier, lime juice and the two bitters into a mixing glass full of ice.
  2. Stir until full chilled, about 20 seconds.
  3. Double strain into a chilled couple or Nick and Nora cocktail glass.
  4. Enjoy.
