From what I’ve read the Rolls Royce cocktail dates back to the 1930 or at least a derivation of it. I can’t remember where I found this particular recipe so I can’t give proper credit.
I love a boozy cocktail and this one is pretty much all alcohol. The Rolls Royce, which I can only assume is named after the luxury car, is a variation on a martini. If you follow the blog you’ll know I love my bourbon and my martinis. This one is a little of both, sort of.
I love the botanical forwardness of Bombay Sapphire and it is my go to gin. The two vermouths balance each other out. I bought a bottle of Bénédictine to make the Creole Cocktail and one other drink I haven’t posted yet, so I had it on hand. The French liqueur adds a different herbal nuance. I think the dash of orange bitters is a nice leveler. Some citrus and obviously some bitter. This was good and goes into the “will make again” category.
Ingredients for the Rolls Royce Cocktail
- 2 1/2 oz gin
- 1/2 oz dry vermouth
- 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
- Heavy teaspoon Bénédictine
- 1 dash orange bitters – optional

How to make the Rolls Royce Cocktail
- Add the gin, dry vermouth, sweet vermouth, Bénédictine and orange bitters to a mixing glass.
- Add ice and stir until well chilled.
- Strain cocktail into a chilled coupe glass. Garnish with lemon peel.
- Enjoy!
