I’ll say this up front, I prefer gin to vodka. Especially in a martini. I get the appeal of vodka but I like the botanical nuance of a good gin. The Kangaroo cocktail was created in NYC in the 1940s. I believe it was given the name to excite and interest rather than just call it a vodka martini. I’ve read several recipes but the below is my favorite. If you must use vodka in a martini here you go…
Ingredients for a Kangaroo Cocktail
- 2 1/2 oz vodka (we like Grey Goose)
- 1 oz Lillet Blanc (or dry vermouth)
- 1-2 dashes orange bitters
- Expressed lemon twist or 1 olive for garnish
How to make a Kangaroo Cocktail
- Add vodka, Lillet Blanc and bitters to a cocktail mixing glass with ice.
- Stir until well chilled and combined.
- Fine strain the cocktail into a chilled martini glass
- Express a lemon twist and garnish.
- Enjoy!
